Frequently Asked Questions
What days are you open?
Discovery Learning Lab is open for tutoring sessions on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 3:45–5:00 PM, and on Wednesdays from 3:45–6:00 PM.
Where is Discovery Learning Lab located?
Discovery Learning Lab is located at the Christ Episcopal Church. The address is 74 Park Avenue, Glen Ridge, NJ. Tutoring will take place in three private classroom spaces.
How long is each program?
Tutoring is offered in an 8-week program. Each tutoring session is one hour long and meets once a week on your chosen day. This gives students consistency and time to make meaningful progress. Take a look at the Register page to see the Fall Session details.
What kind of instruction do you offer?
We offer both small group instruction and private tutoring for children in Kindergarten through Third Grade. This structure allows for personalized support while fostering meaningful learning experiences.
How is my child’s progress monitored?
Each student is given an assessment at the start of the program to identify their strengths and areas of need. At the conclusion, a follow-up assessment is administered to measure growth and progress. Throughout the tutoring sessions, our educators also monitor progress through observation and adjust instruction as needed. You’ll receive a summary at the end of the session highlighting your child’s development and recommendations for continued support.
Who teaches the sessions?
All of our tutors are certified elementary education teachers with experience supporting young learners. Several members of our team also hold additional certifications, such as in Orton-Gillingham, Reading Specialist or Special Education. Our educators use research-backed strategies to provide effective, engaging instruction that builds both academic skills and student confidence.
Who will be my child's tutor?
After determining your preferred schedule and academic focus, we thoughtfully match your child with a qualified teacher whose expertise aligns with their learning needs.
Can I choose between group and private tutoring?
Yes! We offer both options and are happy to help you decide which setting best fits.
How many students are in a small group tutoring session?
Our small group sessions are intentionally kept small to provide personalized attention. Each group includes no more than 5 students.
What are the benefits of small group and private tutoring?
Both small group and private tutoring offer personalized learning experiences tailored to your child’s needs.
Small Group Tutoring (typically 4–5 students) encourages collaboration, boosts social skills, and allows students to learn from peers while still receiving targeted instruction. It creates a supportive environment where students build confidence together.
Private Tutoring offers one-on-one attention, allowing for highly individualized instruction and pacing. It’s ideal for students who need more intensive support or have specific learning goals.
What is the cancellation policy for the Discovery Learning Lab?
If a session is canceled by the teacher, a make-up session will be scheduled. However, if a session is missed or canceled by the family, it will not be made up or refunded. We encourage families to attend consistently to get the most out of the program.
